Natalie Portman was born on June 9th, 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel, as the only child of a doctor father (from Israel) and an artist mother (from Cincinnati, Ohio), who also acts as Natalie's agent. She left Israel for Washington, DC, when she was still very young. After a few more moves, her family finally settled in New York, where she still lives to this day. She graduated with honors, and her academic achievements allowed her to attend Harvard.
She was discovered by an agent in a pizza parlor at the age of 11. She was pushed towards a career in modeling but she decided that she would rather pursue a career in acting. She was featured in many live performances, but she made her powerful film debut in the movie Léon (1994) (aka "The Professional"). TOKYO (Reuters) - Australian actress Nicole Kidman wants to improve her work-life balance -- by making films that her children can enjoy.
The five-months pregnant Kidman, a mother of two, was in Japan to promote her latest big-budget fantasy film "The Golden Compass" and said she had deliberately chosen the child-friendly script.
"My Bella and Connor are 13 and 15. So they have seen the film and they loved it...my child inside won't see the film for a long time," she told a news conference.
"But I think once you have children you want to balance the work you do because they give up so much of you to your work. So occasionally you want to make films that they can take their friends to, they can go to the premiere of, that they celebrate," she added."
Directed by Chris Weitz, "The Golden Compass" also features newcomer actress Dakota Blue Richards who beat off 10,000 girls to play the film's central role of Lyra.
The New Line Cinema film, an adaptation of Philip Pullman's novel "Northern Lights," has been an international hit with worldwide sales to date of about $300 million. New Line is a unit of Time Warner Inc.
Kidman, 40, was due to start filming the post-World War Two drama "The Reader" in early 2008, directed by Stephen Daldry who made "The Hours" which won Kidman her 2003 best actress Oscar.
But she has withdrawn from "The Reader" due to her pregnancy. Dressed in a see-through Prada dress, a radiant Kidman told reporters she was happy that way.
"I have been to Tokyo quite a few times. But this is the first time I have been to Tokyo pregnant. I am very glad to be here this way," she said.

In response to the attacks against her, Jessica came out swinging in the magazine article by accusing her “haters” of wanting to be her and steal some of her “flavour”. “I like that I look different; I like having flavour,” Jessica Alba said. “I think it’s funny that women get their lips injected, butt implants, everyone wants to look like us now.”
Alba, who is taking Spanish lessons and plans to speak only Spanish to her baby, says Jessica Alba feels proud that Jessica Alba is one of the people making the “mainstream” readjust how they see the “face of America”. Katherine Marie Heigl was born in Washington, DC, on November 24, 1978, to Nancy and Paul Heigl. A short time afterward, the family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut, where Katherine was to spend the majority of her childhood; the youngest member of her family, Katherine--or "Katie" as she is nicknamed--has two elder siblings, John and Meg. Tragically, her older brother Jason died in 1986 of brain injuries suffered in a car accident, after being thrown from the back of a pickup truck. When doctors determined he was brain-dead, the family made the difficult decision to donate his organs. Not only did this painful chapter give Katherine a greater perspective and appreciation for life, but it motivated her to use her celebrity to promote the importance of organ donation.
Katherine was first thrust into the limelight as a child model. An aunt, visiting the family in New Canaan, took a number of photographs of Katherine, then aged nine, in a series of poses to advertise a hair care product she had invented. Upon returning to New York, with permission from Katherine's parents, she sent the photos to a number of modeling agencies. Within a few weeks Katherine had been signed to Wilhelmina, a renowned international modeling agency. Almost immediately she made her debut in a magazine advertisement and soon followed this with an inaugural television appearance in a national commercial for Cheerios breakfast cereal.
Following a number of commercials and modeling assignments for Sears and Lord & Taylor, she made her big-screen debut in That Night (1992), which starred Juliette Lewis and C. Thomas Howell. It was then that she realized that acting rather than modeling was her passion. In 1993 Katherine appeared in Steven Soderbergh's critically acclaimed Depression-era drama King of the Hill (1993), before landing her first leading role as a rebellious teenager alongside Gérard Depardieu in My Father the Hero (1994). During this time Katherine continued to attend New Canaan High School, balancing her academic studies with work on films and modeling, which she undertook during holidays, vacations and weekends.
In 1995, she played Sarah Ryback, the niece of Steven Seagal's character, in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995), which was her "debut" in the action film genre. Acting was now becoming a stronger focus for Katherine, although she still modeled extensively, appearing regularly in magazines such as "Seventeen." Television appearances on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (1992) and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" (1993) soon followed, before she took the lead role in Disney's Wish Upon a Star (1996) in 1996. It was also during that year that Katherine's parents divorced and, following her graduation from high school in 1997, she moved with her mother into a four-bedroom house in Los Angeles' Malibu Canyon area. While both films could be described as rather tongue-in-cheek despite their gory emphases, Bride of Chucky (1998) was the better received, both critically and commercially.
In 1999, Katherine decided to branch out into series television when she accepted the role of the haughty yet vulnerable Isabel Evans on "Roswell" (1999), a show that blended teen angst with sci-fi drama. Though she had never planned to embark on a career in television, the role of Isabel, a teenager with a secret life, was an offer she found impossible to refuse. In the series, Isabel, her brother Max (Jason Behr) and their friend Michael (Brendan Fehr) are aliens passing as humans in Roswell, New Mexico, as they desperately try to hide the truth from government agencies, the people of Roswell and even their own adopted families. To publicize her role on the show, Katherine graced the covers of magazines such as "TV Guide," "Maxim," and "Teen" and was interviewed on "Later with Greg Kinnear" (1994) and "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" (1999). Unfortunately, the telefilm, directed by Eric Laneuville, written by Tom Vaughan, and based on the best-seller "The Seventh Power" by James Mills, was shelved when its storyline was deemed too close for comfort to the events of September 11, 2001. It was eventually broadcast in 2003.
Since the cancellation of "Roswell" in the spring of 2002, Katherine has been busy with various projects, including an appearance on UPN's update of the classic television series, "The Twilight Zone" (2002). That episode, entitled "Cradle of Darkness", aired October 2, 2002, and featured Katherine in the role of a woman who goes back in time to stop one of the most notorious murders in history. In addition, she completed a movie, Descendant (2003), a psychological thriller inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher." She has also starred as Romy in ABC/Touchstone's two-hour telepic Romy and Michele: In the Beginning (2005) (TV), a prequel to the 1997 feature Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997).
During the summer of 2002, Katherine made a major decision in the direction of her career when she signed on for representation in all areas with the William Morris Agency, one of the biggest and most prestigious agencies in the entertainment industry. She is now being represented by Norman Aladjem at Paradigm Agency and being managed by Nancy Heigl and Stephanie Simon and Jason Newman at Untitled Entertainment.

Looking simply ethereal in a tiered chiffon gown, the mum-to-be kept it loose and sexy as she honoured those who have helped many a star shine.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Latina magazine, the expectant actress expressed that she wants to speak only Spanish to her baby.
I know, what’s the problem with that, right?
First off, Ms. Alba (who has openly expressed that she hates being called Latina) can’t even speak Spanish herself, so it’s going to be a tad difficult to teach it to her child.
Secondly, Jess also expressed that she doesn’t want to teach the baby how to speak English (at all) for at least the first two years of its life.
So, let`s get this right: She plans on living in the United States but not teaching her child how to speak an ounce of English for the first few years of its life even though English is the only language she knows how to speak?
The poor little tyke doesn’t stand a chance.

When I first saw the top picture I thought ‘oh this dress looks pretty’ and then I scrolled down and saw all the ridiculous ruffles. It looks awful and too pouffy. Not a good look…would have been soooo much prettier straight down. It just looks kind of silly. Jessica doesn’t look too hot herself here actually. Her whole look is just a little lacklustre.
Jessica Alba is a proud Latina. I’m so sick of these racist attacks on her. She said that she is born from the American melting pot and that her family has long assimilated more and more into all-American culturally. This has happened to all cutures in the American melting pot. A lot of people immerse their child in a language other than English for the first 2-3 yers. These kids go to school and learn Englisg superfast and are already fluent in another language. Halle Berry said she’s raising her baby as a French speaker. No one got on her case. Jessica is proud of her unique ancestry and that of her husband to be Cash Warren. They will have a beautiful bilingual child of color, a beautiful wedding, a happy marriage, and I wish them all the best!
PS. There are tutors that teach families. They’ll learn as baby learns. I’m sure the Alba-Warrens can afford the best Spanish tutors.

I'm a sucker for clever uses of animal print and I have to say that I think Jenny McCarthy is looking ab-fab here at the 'Best Damn Super Bowl Party Period." Ludacris and 50 Cent were there to perform and for a moment in one of these pictures Paris Hilton looks like she's stopping over to say hey to the half-dollar rapper. She's probably telling him very politely that despite what he may have heard, she actually has an enormous amount of respect for black people.
The Super Bowl isn't until Sunday, but the party started in Arizona last night. Mary J. Blige and Adam Levine showed off their vocal talents for the lucky guests at the Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Bash. Ashlee and Pete got some sun and tested some new low fat french fries, yummy, and Adrian Grenier chatted up Ludacris at the Best Damn Super Bowl Party Period — wonder if they placed any friendly bets? Obviously there were tons of fun parties, but the most eventful was Matt Leinart's Celebrity Beach Bowl, which came complete with Jenny McCarthy looking fabulous and Paris Hilton. The icing on the cake was that 50 Cent gave Paris a shoutout, but then made her cry when he refused to let her dance on stage with him. It looks like Paris still managed to spend plenty of time showing off her moves, so no harm done.
